Issue Position: Make Education a Top Priority to Spur Job Growth

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

Dr. David Gill, a proud U of I graduate, knows that Illinois' 13th District is home to dozens of colleges and universities. These aren't just places for students to earn a degree, they are incubators of innovation, test labs for new technology and proving grounds for the next generation of products we can market to the world. Our colleges and universities are major economic engines that drive our region. But budget cuts threaten their ability to educate and innovate.

For too long, the Republican-led Congress has worked to gut funding for education from preschool to post-graduate programs. This has helped drive up tuition rates, making a college education harder for middle-class families to afford. David Gill understands that politicians undermining education undercuts our nation's ability to inspire the next generation of scientists, doctors, engineers and teachers. Without a well-educated, well-prepared workforce, our nation can't hope to compete and our children won't enjoy the opportunities their parents or grandparents did. Dr. Gill is committed to aggressively fighting for serious investments in education from kindergarten to college.
