Statement by Tawana W. Cadien, Candidate for U.S. Congress District 10 -- Texas Americans and the Affordable Care Act

Statement

July 11, 2012, will mark the 31st time that House Republicans will take a vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act since taking control of the House in January of last year. During this time period, House Republicans have repeatedly told us that the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional and that they were going to repeal and replace it. Now that the Supreme Court has said that they are wrong on the constitutional statements, they are pushing ahead on "repeal and replace."

This poses one major problem, what's behind door number two? When congressional representatives including my opponent, Michael McCaul, District 10-TX were elected two years ago, he and his fellow House Republicans said that they would repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. That did not happen. Now they say, put me back in office and I really will repeal and replace the Act. But they have not told us what they would replace it with. What are they offering, what's the alternative, why the mystery? This begs the question, where is the Republican alternative. If in fact they have a bill, why not pass that bill and give the American people a clear choice? If in fact they do not have a bill, one must wonder why they have not devoted some of the time used on repeal votes to develop a bill to address what everyone views as a health care crisis.

Instead, they say elect us and we will really repeal the Affordable Care Act this time, and after we repeal, we will replace it with what is behind door number two. Moreover, after the election we will tell you what is behind that door. The American people deserve better. They deserve to know what House Republicans will offer as a replacement. Voters should not be asked to cast their votes to see what mystery lies behind door number two. This is not the type representation the American people deserve.

All Americans whose congressional representatives have agreed to vote to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) should contact their representative and simply ask for a copy of the health care plan they propose in lieu of the current PPACA.

Let's face reality. Right here in Texas, hospitals are closing, costs are going up, and 25% of Texans are currently uninsured. A major reason for that is when people are treated who have no insurance, someone has to pay. The Affordable Care Act addresses that. It is a CONSTITUTIONAL law that provides coverage to many that does not currently exist.

As of right now, House Republicans say we will replace that ... with what is behind door number two!
