Blog: The Push for Jobs

Statement

Date: July 6, 2012

Today saw the release of the June 2012 employment numbers, and they do not paint a pretty picture. Unemployment remains at 8.2 percent -- which is the 41st consecutive month it has been above 8 percent. When underemployment is also taken into account, a truer indicator of economic health, the number rises to 14.9 percent.

What these numbers show is simple -- we need action, not rhetoric. The House is holding up our side of the bargain, with 30 jobs bills passed. Unfortunately the Senate has allowed these important bills to sit idle, but we will not be deterred.

The House will continue to take up legislation to protect American jobs and create the right environment for job growth -- be it the full repeal of Obamacare, lowering taxes, or rolling back job-crushing government regulations. The strength and will of the American people will get our economy moving forward again, all they need from the government is to get out of the way.
