Too Few Veterans

Statement

Date: June 19, 2012
Issues: Veterans

There are fewer veterans in Congress today than at any time since World War II.

That's a staggering fact, especially since we've been at war for almost a decade.
I served in the United States Navy with Brandon for four years. We were both part of the Navy's 7th Fleet stationed in Japan. To this day, the 7th Fleet is known as the "Tip of the Spear" because it's the first to respond to any international crisis. Service in the 7th Fleet is not for the faint of heart.
After the Navy, Brandon was elected to the Colorado General Assembly, and eventually attained its highest leadership post as President of the Senate. I'm sure the dedication, hard work, and commitment he learned in the Navy had something to do with that.

I've been so proud to watch Brandon work hard to make sure that veterans are cared for in Colorado. As President of the Colorado Senate, he shepherded through everything from mental health services and educational benefits, to job placement initiatives that help veterans in Colorado.
Now he's running for the United States Congress, and veterans across the nation need him.

The lack of veterans in Congress has resulted in extreme partisan politics, which we have recently seen derail efforts to help veterans as they return from war. This is simply unacceptable!

We need representatives in Congress who get it -- who understand that on Navy ships, or in Army foxholes, or in Air Force cockpits, there aren't Democrats or Republicans, but simply Americans. Our current Congress has completely lost sight of this.

It's time to send Brandon, a fellow veteran, to Congress. He will set aside partisan politics and apply his dedication, hard work, and commitment to solutions for veterans, active service members, and all of us.
