Issue Position: Labor & Safety in the Workplace

Issues: Labor Unions

Since I was in college, I have walked picket lines in support of the right to strike and to collectively bargain. I first walked in support of striking workers outside grocery and box stores, and in recent years, I joined the picket lines with the Machinists at Boeing. To me this is not just about walking the line, but also about talking with striking workers about how they are willing to make huge sacrifices while on strike to protect their rights and improve the lives of working families. As a legislator, I will continue to work to protect those rights.

Support for labor has been one of the cornerstones of my political career, and I spent countless hours this last session pushing back against the war on state workers and school employees being waged by the Republicans and so-called "Roadkill Democrats." In the final hours of special session, I worked through the night opposing the attack on the earned retirement pension benefits for our public service employees. I also worked hard against legislation to break collectively bargained agreements with school employees for health care.
