Issue Position: Special Interest Groups, My Pledge to Voters

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

The influence of special interest groups is hurting the country. We need politicians who vote in the interest of the whole country, which can mean voting against the interests of some groups. Tom Price has received contributions from a long list (put in the link to FEC site) of special interest groups.

As for myself, I have not and will not accept contributions from any special interest group, whether I agree with their positions or not.

While voters have a right to know where a candidate stands on issues, asking someone to agree unconditionally to any position makes no sense to me. New information becomes available all the time. An elected official must make decisions based on current information. When information changes, the official should reevaluate his position and change if appropriate. The process of responsible decision making becomes more difficult, when one has accepted contributions from special interest groups, or answered their questionnaires. "You broke your promise," they say.

The only promise that I will make is to decide what's best for the country , based on information available at the time.
