Tsongas Statement on Supreme Court Upholding Health Care Reform Law

Statement

Date: June 28, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Fifth District Congresswoman Niki Tsongas released the following statement today following the Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act.

"Today the Supreme Court made a decisive ruling on the future of health care in our country. Up until this moment, I was still hearing from families who were caring for a loved one and were concerned about what today's outcome would mean for them. Today they can breathe a sigh of relief. The Court's ruling upholding the Affordable Care Act is a victory for these families and the American people, and removes any doubt about the survival of these historic reforms and protections included in that bill.

"We can now move forward to continue implementing its provisions, many of which are already making a positive difference in the lives of millions of Americans. As a result of today's ruling, seniors will continue to get help paying for prescription drugs, students and young people will be able to stay on their parents' insurance plans, insurance companies will be prevented from charging women more than men, and a pre-existing condition will no longer prevent someone from getting quality, affordable care.

"I have experienced the hope our health care system can offer and am committed to ensuring that no American has to worry about their health care coverage ever again."
