Second Congressional District Republican nominee Chris Stewart responded today to the announcement that he and five other GOP candidates had been inducted by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) to Young Guns Vanguard program.

Stewart stated, "It is a tremendous honor to be selected among the other five top-tier Republicans to this program and to be known as a Vanguard Young Gun. I feel grateful for the NRCC's mentor-ship from the early stages of my campaign, and look forward to strengthening our relationship as we head into the November election." Stewart continued, "We are working as hard as we can to win this thing, and keep Nancy Pelosi out of the Speaker's chair."

The Young Guns Vanguard program was created in 2009-2010 election cycle to distinguish the top-tier Young Guns candidates. Candidates for Vanguard status must establish a fully-staffed and disciplined campaign and demonstrate fundraising ability. The NRCC kicks off this relationship with Vanguards by giving their full support and additional resources to carry them to victory in November.

The Vanguard program is an extension of the NRCC's Young Guns Program, which was originally founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy(R-CA), and Paul Ryan (R-WI) as a member driven organization, the Young Guns program has become an official NRCC effort dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide.
