Turner Statement on Meeting between Presidents Obama and Putin

Statement

Date: June 18, 2012
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Foreign Affairs

Today, Congressman Mike Turner, Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee in Strategic Forces, released the following statement in response to the meeting between U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin today at the G-20 Summit in Mexico:

"As the President meets with Putin to transmit his thoughts, I'd like to know if he followed up on his discussion with former President Medvedev. Our missile defense systems at home and abroad are not open to compromise. The safety of the American people and our allies are not something to be negotiated upon. I note that the President has thus far refused to respond to my questions about just what he's been offering Russia in his discussions the past three and a half years."
