Increase Resources to Public School Teachers

Studies across the nation conclude that the teacher has the most effect on student achievement. Not peers, home issues, or even parents. Good teachers produce good students. We must double public school teacher salaries over the next 10 years. This will allow our Public Schools to retain, recruit, and develop good teachers and improve education in the city. Next, teachers need district-wide development courses that update them on best practices for classroom management, curriculum, and administrative support. Also, teachers need community programs that support them outside the classroom; local stores that provide supplies when needed, faith-based organizations and nonprofits that enroll at-risk children in after school programs, and parents that get involved to ensure that children in our city succeed. I'll fight to make state funds available to programs that will support our teachers, and improve our city schools.
