Congressman Canseco's Statement on House Passage of Health Care Cost Reduction Act (H.R. 436)

Congressman Francisco "Quico" Canseco, a former small business owner and strong supporter of repealing Obamacare, released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Health Care Cost Reduction Act (H.R. 436):
"Over the past year and a half I've traveled across the 23rd District of Texas and talked to numerous small business owners and other job creators. What they've told me is that one of the biggest things holding them back from creating jobs is Obamacare. That's why an important part of the jobs agenda in the House of Representatives is getting rid of this jobs-crushing law."
"One of the more onerous, damaging provisions in Obamacare is the Medical Device Tax, a 2.3% tax which will be imposed on the sale of medical devices by manufacturers or importers. Medical device manufacturing is an important part of the American manufacturing base, and employs more than 400,000 employees nationwide in good-paying jobs. The Medical Device Tax poses a huge threat to these jobs, as one study estimated that over 43,000 jobs would be lost as a direct result of this tax. Not only would the Medical Device Tax threaten jobs, it would also increase health care costs for Americans."
"Knowing how negatively the Medical Device Tax would impact job creators and health care costs for Americans, the House of Representatives passed the Health Care Cost Reduction Act to eliminate this misguided tax increase. I'm pleased to have supported this important piece of jobs-preserving legislation. At a time when we've experienced our 40th straight month of unemployment at or above 8% - a level the Obama Administration said would never be reached if we passed the trillion dollar-plus stimulus bill - we simply cannot let this jobs-crushing tax increase stand any longer," said Congresman Canseco.
Today's vote on the Health Care Cost Reduction Act marks the 30th time that the House of Representatives has voted to defund, dismantle, or repeal a piece of Obamacare.
