U.S. Rep. Billy Long issued the following statement after the House passed the Fiscal Year 2013 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill:

"The liberty we enjoy in America must be defended, and I am thankful to all the men and women who are serving and have served in our nation's military," Long said. "It is important that we give our Armed Forces the tools they need to do their job. We also must ensure that we honor the service of our nation's veterans and support programs and services they have earned in defense of our nation."

The Fiscal Year 2013 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill contains $71.7 billion in discretionary spending, which is the same level as last year. The bill provides funds to house, train and give our nation's military the tools they need to complete their jobs. The bill provides for those men and women who served in the Armed Forces by funding veterans' benefits programs to ensure all veterans receive the services they have earned.
