Congressional Candidate Karen Bass Receives Support from California League of Conservation Voters

Today Speaker Emeritus Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) announced the support of the California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) in her bid to represent the people of the 33rd Congressional District.

"Karen Bass has been a leader on the top environmental issues of the day," said Warner Chabot, Chief Executive Officer of the CLCV. "She took the lead crafting an historic water package that stands to secure the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta's future, while maintaining a commitment to water rights and water quality. Her ability to create support for that package is the sort of bridge builder Californians need in Washington--someone focused on getting the job done for her constituents."

"The California League of Conservation Voters represents a commitment to California's environmental quality," said Bass. "I am honored to have their support as a candidate for the 33rd Congressional District. From my efforts to expand the Green Collar Jobs Council to the historic water agreement we reached this past year, I have been dedicated to securing and supporting California's environmental future."

As Speaker, Bass played a key role in the historic water agreement that was enacted into law last November. The agreement included water conservation, water monitoring, and more reliable water supplies for all Californians.

Bass carried legislation to create the Green Collar Jobs Council, aimed at providing workforce training to meet the growing demand of California's emerging clean/green economy. Additionally Bass fought to prevent the Tranquillon Ridge offshore oil-drilling project and numerous other attempts to weaken California's environmental protections.

Bass launched her congressional campaign after the Honorable Diane Watson, announced her retirement and subsequently endorsed Bass. In addition to Representative Watson, Bass has received endorsements from Senator Dianne Feinstein, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Los Angeles Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas, City Controller Wendy Greuel and other elected officials and organizations including EMILY's list.
