I stand firmly opposed to Obamacare. In my first term, I have sought every opportunity to repeal or overturn this overreaching, damaging legislation. This includes:
Voting twice to repeal Obamacare
Signing multiple amicus briefs to the Supreme Court in opposition
Sponsoring legislation preventing the federal government from obtaining personally identifiable health records and information
Co-sponsoring legislation eliminating the most damaging aspects of Obamacare, including IPAB.
As a cardiothoracic surgeon, I understand we must address the fundamental issue of health care costs. It is the only responsible, common sense solution. By reducing costs, we will increase health care coverage and accessibility to those who cannot now afford it.
We need free market solutions which promote competition, which will lower health care costs paid by the patient, expanded choices and treatment options, as well as improved service.
Cost is the issue here, which is why I will continue to focus on:
Meaningful Tort Reform
Expanding Healthcare Savings Account eligibility
Employer pooling to create larger, more competitive buying groups
Prohibit denial of insurance based on pre-existing conditions
And, application of the following principles to our health care solution:
Expanded choices of doctors, hospitals and health plans
Greater tax fairness and simplification
Increase competition by allowing purchase of health insurance across state lines
Demand greater transparency in insurance price disclosure
