Hall Critical of May Unemployment Numbers

Statement

Date: June 1, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Following May unemployment numbers released today, Rep. Ralph Hall (TX-04) released the following statement:

"The latest unemployment numbers continue to reflect President Obama's failed policies and mishandling of America's economy. Since the President took office over three years ago, unemployment has remained at or above 8%. May's unemployment rose to 8.2% - up from 8.1%. It's important to keep in mind that these numbers don't include people who have stopped looking for work altogether.

"The President's failed stimulus spending and bad economic and over-reaching regulatory policies are hurting American families and the middle class.

"According to the Heritage Foundation, this Administration has cost Americans more than $46 billion through more than one hundred major new regulations, including blocking and delaying projects to expand domestic energy production and imposing rules that kill jobs and make energy more expensive. The Science, Space, and Technology Committee, which I chair, has identified extensive flaws in the scientific and technical justifications used by this Administration to impose these regulations. Businesses cannot create jobs in the face of this steady stream of red tape.

"House Republicans will continue to work to boost job creation by creating a more positive environment for job creators to hire workers, including efforts to help small businesses by reducing regulatory burdens and providing tax relief. We hope that the Senate Democratic Leadership will eventually join our efforts and pass legislation that will help our hurting economy.

"We need to work together to create a positive future not only for ourselves, but also for our children and grandchildren."
