Late last night, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5854 -- the FY 2013 Military Construction/Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act. Following the vote, Congressman Jeff Landry (R, LA-03) -- a veteran of Desert Storm who has 4 veterans on his staff -- applauded his colleagues for their vote and reiterated his call to expedite the Lake Charles and Lafayette Community Based Outpatient Clinic facilities.

"I proudly voted to properly fund our Veterans Administration (VA) to care for the brave men and women who risked their lives to protect our freedoms and liberties," said Congressman Landry. "And I thank my colleagues for joining me in passing the measure."

"As a proud veteran, I vow to continue fighting for my fellow veterans and the benefits they earned in defense of our country," continued Congressman Landry. "And as I did at the grand opening of the Lake Charles Mobile Clinic, I call on the VA to use this authorized funding and all their available resources to expedite competition of the Southwest Louisiana veterans health clinics."

With the 407-12 vote, the bill now goes to the Senate.
