King Statement on New Jersey Attorney General Finding that NYPD Complied with Laws in Counterterror Efforts

Today, Rep. Peter T. King (R-NY), Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, issued the following statement upon the finding by New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa of no wrongdoing by the NYPD in its counterterrorism efforts:

King said: "I applaud the findings by Attorney General Chiesa that the New York Police Department did not violate any New Jersey laws in its absolutely essential and laudable counterterrorism efforts. The Attorney General is a dedicated public servant who deserves great credit for his service to the people of New Jersey.

"This finding of NYPD's full compliance with the laws is simply the latest in the string of such findings, be they formal or informal. President Obama's homeland security advisor John Brennan, when he recently visited the NYPD officers, announced his "full confidence that the NYPD is doing things consistent with the law.' FBI Director Robert Mueller has said the NYPD is in full compliance with the law. A CIA Inspector General investigation found no violations of the law by NYPD.

"The NYPD has the most effective counterterrorism unit in the country. There are 1000 men and women working day and night to protect New York City from Islamist terrorists who continue to target the city nearly 11 years after 9/11.

"The Associated Press, which has produced a series of slanderous attacks against the NYPD, has not been able to produce one instance of the law or a provision of the Constitution being violated."
