Immigration is what makes the United States such a great country. It is the lifeblood of our economy. I do recognize the need to strengthen our borders, but I believe that immigrants already in the country that are in good standing should be granted a humane path to citizenship. I support the DREAM Act, which would result in more people in America being educated. This would strengthen our economy and improve our standing in the world. Undocumented immigrants brought to the United States through no fault of their own who seek to be educated deserve the same opportunities as every American.

I also believe in birthright citizenship as granted by the Fourteenth Amendment, which many conservatives now deny: those born in the United States are citizens of this country, regardless of where their parents were born. Neither the text of that amendment nor its historical understanding should be changed.
