Happy Mother's Day

Statement

This Mother's Day, I am renewing my commitment to preserve Medicare for our nation's mothers and grandmothers. A majority of Medicare beneficiaries are women (56 percent), and among the oldest beneficiaries (85 and older) 70 percent are women. Unfortunately, Republicans are trying to end Medicare by requiring beneficiaries under 55 to use a voucher system to purchase healthcare. These vouchers will not match increases in healthcare costs, thus requiring our nation's seniors to increasingly bear the burden of healthcare expenses. I am proud to firmly pledge that this Mother's Day to continue the fight with our mothers and grandmothers to prevent this disastrous Republican measure from taking effect. To all the mothers in the 11th Congressional District of New York have wonderful Mother's Day.
