Kerry Resolution: Abducted Bower Children Should be Returned Home

Statement

Date: May 16, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

In commemoration of National Missing Children's Day, Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.), Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, introduced a Senate Resolution calling for the return of Noor and Ramsey Bower, two young brothers from Massachusetts illegally abducted and taken to Egypt in 2009.

"This is a father's worst nightmare," said Sen. Kerry, who has been working with Noor and Ramsey's father Colin Bower, the U.S. State Department, and the Egyptian government since the abduction to locate the children, facilitate meetings for Bower with his sons, and help secure resolution to the case. "Colin has been suffering throughout this ordeal. These young boys were abducted and taken to Egypt with false documentation and under false pretenses. Colin Bower had full, legal custody of his sons here in Massachusetts, and their abduction is a tragedy that must be resolved. Next Friday is National Missing Children's Day, and it is a reminder that right in our own backyard in Massachusetts, we have two empty seats at the Bower family kitchen table, and we need to end this father's ordeal."

Since 2009, Chairman Kerry has authored a series of letters and spoken directly to American and Egyptian authorities at the highest levels to try and resolve this abduction case and urge the boys' safe return.
