Congresswoman Hirono Statement in Recognition of Military Appreciation Month

Statement

Date: May 1, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawaii) today released the following statement in Recognition of Military Appreciation Month:

"Each May our country recognizes the brave volunteers of our armed forces. We dedicate this time to express gratitude for the service and sacrifice of our military personnel, families, and veterans. Mahalo to all our servicemembers stationed in Hawai"i and our keiki o ka "āina serving around the world for your commitment to protecting our nation, its citizens, and our freedom.

"As members of Congress, it is our duty to support our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines during training and in combat, and as they return home from their tours of duty. We must help our veterans in their transition back to civilian life, whether through finding jobs or seeking an academic degree. This is why I cosponsored the VOW to Hire Heroes Act and the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill.

"While the month of May is officially "Military Appreciation Month," this gratitude is something we can share with our military men and women every day. Please join me in honoring and thanking the members of our armed services, not only during May, but throughout the year."
