Balanced Budget Amendment II

Statement

Thank you for your recent email expressing your support of The People's Balanced Budget Amendment. I'm happy to tell you that I was the first Member of Congress to sign the pledge and I have actually put my words into action by introducing the bill in Congress.

As the size and scope of government has grown, so too has Washington's lust for spending taxpayers' money. So I agree with you wholeheartedly -- the only surefire way to get our economy back on track and ensure America continues on its path of prosperity is to hold Washington accountable with a Balanced Budget Amendment.

One of my greatest disappointments in Congress was when a similar balanced budget effort was waged in Congress during my first term in 1995. We came within one vote in the House of passing this legislation. Since then, our debt has increased by $10 trillion.

This bill is a game changer and is absolutely critical to the fiscal health of our beloved America. Thank you for your support of this essential effort. I want to encourage you to keep fighting the good fight, because our nation is worth it!
