Plummer Named 'Contender' by NRCC

Press Release

Date: April 26, 2012
Issues: Guns

The National Republican Congressional Committee today announced Jason Plummer as a "Contender' candidate, the important third step in the "Young Guns' program. Founded during the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the "Young Guns' program is a Member-driven effort that is the primary method for recruiting strong candidates for both open-seat and incumbent challenge elections. Plummer is running for Illinois' 12th Congressional District.

"We are looking forward to working with Jason Plummer, who has already proven himself by meeting rigorous benchmarks in the "Young Guns' program that will position his campaign for victory," said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). "Jason Plummer's dedication and experience positions him to advocate for pro-growth policies and fight the failed Democrat status quo in Washington. This will stand in stark contrast to the Democrats' record of spending, borrowing and taxing that Illinois families know has failed."

Specifically, the "Young Guns' program encourages candidates who have proven their ability to meet crucial campaign benchmarks to develop their campaigns further in order to achieve victory on Election Day. In achieving "Contender' status, Plummer has met the third set of these organizational and fundraising benchmarks and has already begun to establish himself as a strong challenger.

"It's an honor to receive this designation from the NRCC," Plummer said. "These are serious times, and we need serious leaders to provide serious solutions for the problems that average Americans face. From now until the election, I will be getting out and meeting with voters across the district about how I will help create jobs, reduce burdensome regulations and shrink the size of government."

As a community leader and businessman, Jason Plummer serves his country as an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Naval Reserves and works in his community as Vice President of Corporate Development at R.P. Lumber Company, a family-owned and operated business that, along with other Plummer family businesses, is involved in creating and maintaining more than 1,000 quality jobs. In his community, Plummer has coached youth sports and been involved in other civic organizations, such as currently serving on the Executive Board of the Lewis & Clark Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
