As a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ community, Mike believes in the fair treatment of individuals regardless of their sexual orientation, gender expression and identity. Mike has supported countless floor actions in the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, served on the WHIP team for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, and led efforts as Ranking Member on Legislative Branch Appropriations to stop the use of taxpayer dollars in partisan defense of the unconstitutional Defense of Marriage Act. A strong voice for immigrant rights, he has authored the Reuniting Families Act, which would allow Americans to sponsor their permanent partners for immigration purposes, regardless of gender.
