In order to meet our country's increasing demands for energy, we must make the elimination of US dependency on foreign oil a top priority -- it impacts every business and every household in this country. Our motivation to find and implement these solutions should be similar to the 1960s space race, and our drive to end the Cold War.

Americans have always proven to meet and exceed the challenges facing our nation, and the need to find practical, long-term and sustainable energy solutions is no different. We must remain vigilant and focused on this effort. This is a long-term effort and we can not be swayed by short term oil prices.

In order to meet this challenge, I propose we:

Conduct offshore drilling at a safe and secure distance, as to not detract from Florida's tourism.
Research and identify alternative fuels such as:

Wind
Solar
Hydro
Nuclear
Clean coal
Natural gas

There has not been any consistent scientific proof of man made impact on global warming, and therefore U.S. economic interests must be first and foremost, while always remaining cognizant of our desires to protect our beautiful shorelines and the Florida Everglades. A more practical approach to our energy demands will also help to create jobs and spurn the economy.
