U.S. Sen. David Vitter today applauded the Louisiana State Legislature for passing education reform legislation, including a bill to tie tenure to teacher performance and a bill to increase school choice by expanding the scholarship program.

"Passing these bills is a huge win for Louisiana's education system," Vitter said. "Louisiana has been spending hundreds of millions on failing schools, but these bold education reforms are what we need -- a better education system for parents and their children."

Vitter has been working diligently to aid the reform effort including individual conversations with specific legislators to help rally support for reform. Specifically he's been involved with urging members of the Louisiana House and Senate to support HB 974/SB 603: Tenure and Personnel Reform, and HB 976/SB 597: School Choice and Vouchers, both authored by Rep. Steve Carter and Sen. Conrad Appel, as well as other reform legislation that was part of Gov. Bobby Jindal's education reform package.
