Congressman David Cicilline Tuesday held the first of a series of neighborhood meetings geared at senior citizens, criticizing the budget passed last week by the Republican-led House.

The meeting came at lunchtime at the Salvatore Mancini Resource and Activity Center in North Providence, in which Cicilline criticized the Medicare changes in the Republican budget proposal advanced by house Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI), calling it "wrong" and saying he "fought against it."

"This is a budget which I think most people if they look at it will say it is not good for America, it's not good for Rhode Island and it doesn't protect the important priorities of our state and our government," said Cicilline.

Cicilline has been an outspoken critic of the budget and voted against it last week. The measure passed amid heavy criticism by Congressional Democrats. Senate Democrats have vowed to reject it.

Despite low poll numbers, Cicilline was greeted by the seniors present with mostly positive reactions.

Cicilline also answered questions from the seniors about his work in Congress. He will host more meetings with seniors over the next two weeks while Congress is on break.
