Illegal Immigration must stop! Porous borders threaten our economy and national security. Defending the 1,969 mile stretch should be one of the federal government's top priorities. Unfortunately our borders have been terribly neglected and the burden of security has been placed on individual states. This is a travesty and if elected I will work diligently with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Security and INS to ensure immigration laws are being properly enforced, while protecting a pathway to citizenship for those who chose to immigrate legally. The problem of illegal immigration begins and ends at the border and the federal government is responsible for correcting the current problem. I will propose the stationing of security forces along the border in an effort to limit mass undocumented migration. Considering the current recession our country is enduring, the economy simply cannot afford the cost of absorbing multitudes of illegal immigrants, nor the potential threat of terrorism and violence that follows a weak border. There is also a cultural component to the issue of illegal immigration and language is at the center of it. English is the language of the United States and always will be, and I will fight any and all efforts that threaten to adversely change its significance or standing.
