Congressman Brian Bilbray Introduces Bill to Place a Deadline for Approval of Jonas Salk Elementary School

Congressman Brian Bilbray (CA-50), Mira Mesa Town Council and San Diego Unified School District have issued the following statements following the introduction of H.R. 4244, a bill to Cap Undo Regulatory Environmental Delay (CURED Act) for the proposed Jonas Salk Elementary School.

This bill places a deadline on U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to issue a final determination for an elementary school that was approved for construction in 2003. Originally slated to begin serving students in 2006, the school has been delayed by an environmental lawsuit and various agency delays that have pushed its opening to 2014. The bill does not sidestep environmental review. The San Diego Unified School District has done its due diligence to protect the environment and provide for students. H.R. 4244 recognizes the school district's effort and ensures that the final determination to build the school is issued in a timely manner.
