House Passes IPAB Repeal

Statement

Date: March 22, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Kansas Congressman Tim Huelskamp issued the following statement after the House voted to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB). IPAB is a creation of the President's health care law. It would be comprised of 15 unelected and unaccountable Washington bureaucrats with draconian authority to ration Medicare services.

"Whether it is piece-by-piece or in one fell swoop, ObamaCare must be repealed before it ruins America's health care system," Congressman Huelskamp said. "Today's vote to eliminate IPAB is one step closer to undoing the harm that ObamaCare will do to patients, especially our seniors. Putting the care of our seniors on Medicare in the hands of 15 unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats is neither what America wants nor needs."

"We know President Obama puts his own health care law ahead of Medicare, which has been the law of the land for many years and around which many seniors have planned their retirements. After all, his plan is funded in part by raiding $500 billion from Medicare. With Medicare already on the path toward insolvency, it makes no sense to bankrupt Medicare in order to fund his health care takeover."

Nearly 400 groups that represent patients, doctors, and employers have stated their strong opposition to IPAB.
