Edwards' Statement on February Jobs Report

Statement

Date: March 9, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Representative Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) released the following statement today regarding the Department of Labor's announcement that the economy added 227,000 jobs in February. The country added 233,000 private sector jobs, marking the 24th consecutive month of private sector job growth. The unemployment remained at 8.3 percent, the lowest it has been in three years.

"February's job report from the Department of Labor is another positive sign that our economy is recovering. These numbers should encourage Congress to move quickly on the number one priority of the majority of Americans: job creation. Yet, Republicans in the House are still debating moving on a ruinous transportation bill that would destroy 500,000 jobs. We can and we must do better.

"I encourage my Republican colleagues to work in a bipartisan fashion on a transportation bill that meets our infrastructure needs, prepares our economy for the 21st Century, and puts more Americans back to work. Democrats are ready to get to work, and I hope Republicans will join us."
