Reid Statement on February Unemployment Rate

Statement

Date: March 9, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement after the Labor Department's jobs report showed the economy added 227,000 jobs in February, a stronger gain than forecast. The Department of Labor revised job gains for January upward to 284,000 jobs. The last six months of job growth have been the strongest since 2006.

"Today's news is encouraging, but with many families in Nevada and across the nation still struggling, creating jobs must remain Congress' top priority.

"With job-creating transportation programs set to expire at the end of the month, the House should take up the Senate's bipartisan transportation bill and pass it as soon as they return. The millions of Americans whose jobs depend on these programs cannot afford for Republicans to turn the Senate's bipartisan legislation into yet another partisan battle. I hope my Republican colleagues will make the responsible choice, avoid another unnecessary fight, and work with us to keep advancing common-sense measures that will grow our economy and help the middle class."
