Rich on House Passage of JOBS Act

Statement

Following overwhelming House passage of the JOBS Act and a vote of 390-23, Rep. Rich Nugent (FL-05) issued the following statement:

"Today the House passed another overwhelmingly bipartisan piece of jobs legislation. Unlike some of the jobs bills we passed earlier in the year with near-unanimous, bipartisan votes, the President has finally agreed to support one. That's why I'm optimistic that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will actually bring it up for a vote and it can become law.

"I don't think there is anyone out there who expects the House and Senate to agree on every policy detail, but so far, Senator Reid has refused to bring up House-passed legislation for committee hearings, floor debate, amendment mark ups, or up or down votes. That's been mighty hard to explain to American families and businesses who are struggling to get back on their feet. The bottom line is that if the Senate isn't going to pass their own bills, they should amend ours and send them back for another debate. We're ok with that. That's the way the process is supposed to work and I am hopeful that it will work in this case.

"We have an overwhelmingly bipartisan bill that has the support of the White House and will unquestionably help some real-life small businesses out there. It's not an academic exercise, this is real common sense changing of current policy. We pretty much all agree it should happen, so let's get the Senate in gear and make it law. "
