McCaskill Statement on Construction of Keystone Pipeline Southern Leg

Press Release

Date: Feb. 27, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill today released the following statement in response to an announcement by TransCanada Corp. that it will move forward with the southern leg of its proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline:

"This is good news for American jobs, and a good step toward increasing energy production right here at home. Missouri families getting squeezed by higher gas prices deserve to know that we're doing everything possible to strengthen America's energy security. That's why I support construction of the Keystone pipeline and hope to see the entire project back on track as soon as possible."

McCaskill supports increased domestic energy production, including construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.

Citing provocative actions by the government of Iran which are driving up energy prices for American consumers, McCaskill urged President Obama last week to release oil from the United States Strategic Petroleum Reserve. McCaskill also spent January criss-crossing Missouri on her statewide Hometown Energy Tour to hear from energy producers and consumers on how to keep energy prices affordable.
