I believe that the US should operate under a balanced budget with the exception that deficit spending should be allowed in the event of a legitimate emergency or war. Many people support the idea of a Balanced Budget Ammendment to the Constitution. While I would support such an ammendment, I think that a much more expedient solution would be a Republican-controlled Senate and House with a pledge by Republicans to spend only as much as is taken in, with the noted exceptions allowed. We do not actually have time to wait for the Ammendment process. We need to begin controlling spending immediately--then we can take the time to carefully craft such an Ammendment.

A Balanced Budget Ammendment must be carefully written to include verbiage (see also Taxes above) to prevent its being used as a justification for raising taxes. Liberals are expert at creatively corrupting language and interpreting our Constitution and our laws to promote precisely what they were intended to prevent.
