Smith Speaks to Marchers 39 Years after Roe v. Wade

Statement

Date: Jan. 23, 2012
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Abortion

Congressman Chris Smith today addressed the tens of thousands of citizens who gathered to "March for Life" in the nation's capital 39 years after the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortions.

"Thank you for being an important part of the greatest human rights movement on earth--the selfless struggle by prayer, fasting and works to defend and protect all weak and vulnerable persons from the violence of abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia," said Smith, the co-chairman of the House Bipartisan Pro-Life Caucus. "A special thank you to the courageous women who are "silent no more", who at great personal sacrifice, show post-abortive women the way to reconciliation and healing. You are a powerful deterrent to women contemplating abortion or under pressure to abort and to everyone else--especially Congress, the Supreme Court and the President--your witness cries out: women deserve better than abortion.

"As the co-chair of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus, I am proud to stand with so many outstanding lawmakers in defense of life. As you know, under the extraordinary leadership of Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Cantor, the House has overwhelmingly approved HR 3--the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, the Protect Life Act and has voted to completely repeal Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood."
