Gosar Rejects Debt Ceiling Increase

Statement

Date: Jan. 18, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Paul Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-01) voted to reject the President's request to increase the federal debt ceiling by $1.2 trillion.

H. J. Res. 98, the second Debt Limit Resolution of Disapproval passed the House with a vote of 239-176. Congressman Gosar issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the resolution:

Today, I voted for a measure intended to send a clear message to President Obama that "Enough is Enough'. When the debt ceiling was raised last September, in order to avoid a catastrophic default, the President promised us and the American people that he would reverse his Administration's failed fiscal policies and take the necessary steps to restore fiscal sanity in Washington, DC. This promise was not kept and hardworking taxpaying Americans today and for generations are paying the price.

This cannot continue. The people of Arizona's First District and of the nation have spoke out again and again. Our nation's fiscal crisis is not a partisan problem, it is an American problem. We must take immediate action to address our nation fiscal crisis and reduce the size of government. The American people expect solutions and another increase of the debt ceiling is not the answer.
