Rep. Carney Statement on Agreement to Extend The Payroll Tax Cut

Statement

U.S. Representative John Carney (D-DE) released the following statement tonight after Speaker John Boehner announced that House Republicans would agree to a two-month extension of the payroll tax cut:

"I'm pleased that taxes will not be going up for 160 million Americans on January 1st.

"For months, I have supported a clean one-year extension of the payroll tax cut. This short-term fix is not the ideal situation, but it is an important development for working families in this tough economy.

"The two-month extension will provide Congress with the necessary time to agree on how to pay for the full year extension and negotiate deals regarding the extension of unemployment insurance and Medicare payments to doctors."
