Linda Sánchez Statement on December Jobs Report

Statement

Date: Jan. 6, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-39) released the following statement after the Department of Labor announced today that the economy added 200,000 jobs in December and the unemployment rate fell to 8.5 percent--the lowest rate in nearly 3 years:

"The December jobs report is a very encouraging sign that the economy is improving. However, there is much more work that needs to be done to bring down an unacceptably high unemployment rate.

"It is vital that Congress make job creation its top priority right now. We have gone an entire year without a serious job creation plan, and the American people simply can't afford for Republicans to continue to waste time with destructive partisan games.

"It's time for Congress to get to work on policies that strengthen our economy and put Americans back to work. I encourage House Republicans to work with Democrats on a long-term extension of the payroll tax cut, which would help stimulate the economy and put more money back in the pockets of 160 million Americans."
