Fleming Votes for Middle Class Tax Relief, Medicare Stability and Job Creation

Statement

Congressman John Fleming, M.D., (LA-4) released the following statement after voting for the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2011:

"House Republicans continue to make jobs our number one priority. The bill I voted for supports the creation of private sector jobs by blocking more job-destroying regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and ending President Obama's Keystone Pipeline delay; a delay that is already costing jobs. This measure also protects all workers from a tax increase in January, and offsets that with commonsense spending cuts.

"Of special concern to our seniors is that this legislation brings stability and certainty to Medicare by updating the rate of payment to physicians, ensuring that Medicare patients have access to their doctors. This 2-year payment fix is the longest one that Congress has provided since 2004, and it gives us time to work with the medical community in developing a permanent solution.

"This bill now faces the obstacle of Senate Democrats and President Obama who continue blocking our job creation efforts. I can only hope that they will finally stop playing politics, listen to the American people, and help our economy by quickly making this legislation into law."

Dr. John Fleming is Chairman of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans and Insular Affairs and is a member of the House Armed Services Committee. He is a physician and small business owner and represents the 4th Congressional District of Louisiana.
