Statement

Date: Dec. 7, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) issued the following statement commemorating the anniversary of the December 7, 1941, attack on the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor:

"Seventy years ago today, more than 3,500 innocent American men, women, and children lost their lives during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and the course of history was forever changed.

"That fateful day marked the beginning of America's four year campaign to defeat the Axis alliance and rid the world of some of the greatest tyrants known to man

"While the tragedy that unfolded on Pearl Harbor lasted only a few hours, it gave rise to a cause that defined a generation, with Americans of all walks of life sacrificing blood and treasure to end the horrors of the Holocaust and stop the spread of fascism throughout the world.

"Today, let's remember that when America is met with adversity, it overcomes in triumph, and the world is a better place because of it."
