Statement on Reid's Remarks Concerning Increasing Revenues

Statement

Date: Dec. 6, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Senator Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) issued the following statement after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) commented on Johanns' earlier remarks on increasing revenue:

"I will not support legislation that raises taxes to pay for new spending, including the proposed Collins-McCaskill bill. Senator Reid has taken liberties in characterizing my comments. To be crystal clear, I am open to considering increased revenues only in the context of a broad and meaningful deficit reduction package that lowers overall tax rates," Johanns said. "For the sake of our entire country's future, I certainly hope the senator from Nevada and all of our colleagues recognize the seriousness of the pending crisis if we fail to get our financial house in order."
