Statement on November Jobs Report

Statement

Date: Dec. 2, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney (FL-16) today issued the following statement after the Department of Labor reported that the U.S. economy added 120,000 jobs in November, while approximately 315,000 Americans gave up looking for work. Florida's unemployment rate is 10.3 percent, according to the latest report.
"For the more than 13 million Americans still looking for work, and the 315,000 who simply gave up trying last month, this report highlights the failure of the President's big-government, big-spending policies.
"The new jobs created last month came despite an avalanche of new obstacles and uncertainty from the federal government, and showcase the resilience of our small businesses. Imagine what small businesses could do if we started tearing down roadblocks and gave them the stable environment they need to grow, like my jobs plan would do?
"The House of Representatives has passed more than 20 jobs bills that are waiting for votes in the do-nothing Senate. The American people can't afford to wait while the Senate sits on its hands and avoids the tough votes. If the President really believes that "We can't wait,' he should stop campaigning and call on the Senate to pass these bills right away."
