Supercommittee's Super Failure

Statement

Date: Nov. 22, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan offered the following statement in the wake of the Supercommittee's failure to reach agreement on deficit reduction:

"As if we needed more proof that Washington is broken, Congress has now failed to reach agreement on a deficit-reduction package, less than a week after failing to enact a balanced budget amendment," said Buchanan. "In these times of economic crisis, it is absolutely essential to avoid partisanship and put the needs of the country first. There is nothing more urgent than cutting the deficit and putting Americans back to work. The Supercommittee struck out, and now the Congress, Republicans and Democrats alike, must step up to the plate and get the job done."
