Governor Orders U.S. & State Flags Lowered

In concurrence with a presidential proclamation, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today issued a proclamation ordering all U.S. and state flags displayed at state facilities lowered to half-staff the entire day of Wednesday, December 7, in commemoration of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

"Many fought fiercely at Pearl Harbor and throughout WWII, answering the call to defend our way of life," said Gov. Tomblin. "While many of these veterans, in West Virginia and throughout the United States, have since passed on, it is imperative that we preserve their legacy. From our brave veterans to the civilians who stepped up to protect our country, may we always remember all who have contributed to defending our freedoms."

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is held annually on December 7 in honor of the more than 3,500 Americans killed or wounded during that deadly attack and to pay tribute to the heroes whose courage ensured our Nation's recovery.
