Citizenship and Immigration Services Neglectful on Technology Upgrade Project

Statement

Date: Nov. 22, 2011
Issues: Immigration

Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Chuck Grassley released the following statement after the Government Accountability Office (GAO) made public a report analyzing the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' efforts to move from paper record-keeping to an electronic system. The GAO found major flaws in the agencies performance. Grassley wrote to the Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in February asking about the progress of the program. That letter can be found here. A copy of the GAO's report can be found here.

"The GAO documented that Citizenship and Immigration Services has been clearly negligent in its administration of the Transformation project. Unfortunately, delays and cost overruns are all too familiar in the federal government. There can't be any more excuses. Every dollar counts."
