Washington, D.C. - Senator Richard Lugar was honored on the Senate floor today for casting his ten-thousandth vote as a member of the United States Senate. U.S. Senator Evan Bayh issued the following statement congratulating Senator Lugar on this accomplishment:

"Senator Lugar's dedication and service to Indiana and our nation sets an example for others to follow. He is a valued colleague, friend, and someone I deeply respect. His work to improve the lives of Hoosiers and make our world a safer, more secure place has distinguished him in the United States Senate.

"Senator Lugar is highly respected in Indiana for his hard work on behalf of Hoosiers, and around the globe for his expertise in foreign affairs. Through Nunn-Lugar and other efforts, he has made significant contributions to world peace, and has had a substantial impact in the Senate. I congratulate him for casting his ten-thousandth vote today and look forward to continuing to work with him in the future."
