Hayworth Votes to Repeal Onerous Tax Provision in Bipartisan Manner

Statement

Date: Oct. 27, 2011
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

U.S. Rep. Nan Hayworth, M.D. (NY-19) issued the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 674, which Hayworth co-sponsored, to prevent the federal government from withholding three percent of its payment on its business contracts. The House vote to repeal this onerous tax provision is another example of House Republicans working to find common ground with the President on job creation measures. The President, in his jobs bill which sits stalled in the Senate, sought to delay the implementation of this harmful tax rule:

"Today House Republicans led the charge to help create jobs and find common ground with our Democratic fellow members and the President. The 3% withholding tax we have voted to repeal creates a costly and unnecessary burden on our job creators. President Obama agrees with us--so now it's up to the Senate to pass this important measure. And after that, let's see the Senate pass the 15 other job-creating bills that they have ignored throughout this year. Americans can't wait on the Senate for the relief they need and deserve."
