Pelosi: On Veterans Day, Let Us Honor Our Troops By Creating Jobs

Statement

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in recognition of Veterans Day, which will be celebrated tomorrow:

"On Veterans Day, Americans pause to honor and celebrate all of the men and women who went to war and came safely home; who traveled to distant battlefields on behalf of our freedom and security; who have fought in the name of liberty, in defense of our values.

"From generation to generation, our veterans are bound together by their shared sacrifice, by their willingness to step forward and protect all Americans with their lives and their strength. These soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen, and Coast Guardsmen answer the call of duty, perform with honor, and reflect the best and bravest of our country. They define the very meaning of service.

"Today, the single best action we can take to support our veterans is creating jobs. To meet that charge, President Obama has championed efforts to put our veterans to work; this week, the Senate passed the VOW to Hire Heroes Act to boost employment opportunities for those in uniform; and House Democrats have long supported similar initiatives. Now, it is time for the House to pass this critical measure without delay.

"America's troops carry out every task and every mission with utmost courage, bravery, and valor. They do all that we ask of them, and ask for no accolades and recognition in return. We owe them nothing less than our unending gratitude. And, on Veterans Day, we reaffirm our solemn pledge: that just as the military leaves no one behind on the battlefield, we will leave no veteran behind when they come home."
