Issue Position: Economic Development (JOBS, JOBS, JOBS)

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2011

As your next State Senator I will fight to ensure that the creation of jobs and educational improvement work in tandem. I believe that job creation begins with a strong education system. An educated workforce strengthens our chances of recruiting quality, high paying jobs to Mississippi.

We have to recruit jobs that stay in Mississippi and restore opportunity for all Mississippians. We must start by preparing ourselves for diverse job opportunities, especially in Senate District 14 where several job creating opportunities have bypassed us because we were not prepared. I believe that the most effective way to increase opportunities for our families is a high quality, good paying job. I believe that incentives drive our economies and thus we have to create a jobs packages in Mississippi that provide incentives both for corporations and small businesses who wish to create jobs in Mississippi.

A strong Mississippi begins with good jobs that support families. A strong Mississippi keeps the promise of opportunity for all and an equal chance for all our people. I believe in economic policies that bring prosperity for all Mississippians. It is my belief that good jobs will help strengthen & expand the strongest middle class that Mississippi has ever known. I also believe the private sector, not government, is the engine of economic growth and job creation. Government's responsibility is to create an environment that will promote private sector investment, foster vigorous competition, and strengthen the foundations of a robust economy.

As your next State Senator, I plan to lead the charge in sparking job creation throughout Senate District 14 by adopting a set of policies that create economic environments that are conducive to job creation.
